Jacob Ballas Children's Garden

Jacob Ballas Children's Playground is a unique water playground designed to inspire learning through play. It reflects the natural water cycle and brings to life key processes such as evaporation, rainfall, and surface runoff. This interactive play space allows children aged 2 to 12 to explore water movement in a fun and safe environment.

Designed by RIOS, the playground combines Vortex International's innovative water play equipment with thoughtful design to encourage curiosity and active engagement. Children can experience the joy of play while gaining a deeper understanding of nature’s processes. The playground is built with high-quality, safe, and durable equipment, ensuring a secure play experience for all. This installation was awarded the Silver Award for Playground at the LIAS Awards 2025, recognising its outstanding design, creativity, and contribution to Singapore’s landscaped recreational spaces.

The water play area illustrates the key stages of the water cycle: precipitation, runoff, and evaporation. In the precipitation zone, towering water features simulate a tropical downpour, with a giant tipping bucket creating an exciting cascade. Interactive buttons let children control the water flow, enhancing cause-and-effect learning. The runoff area features rainbow arches and sculpted mounds, where spinning water controls teach hydrodynamics. Finally, the evaporation zone has gentle jets mimicking water evaporating under the sun, with shallow pools providing a safe, refreshing space for toddlers. Through interactive play, children grasp how water moves through the Earth's atmosphere and shapes our environment.
