Marina Bay Playground: Urban Play in the Heart of Singapore
- by Sarah Lee
Set against the iconic skyline of Marina Bay and located beside the Red Dot Design Museum, the Marina Bay Playground has long been a familiar recreational destination for families, visitors and the wider community. In 2026, the playground underwent a major transformation, introducing a refreshed collection of Playworld equipment that redefines what urban play can look and feel like in the heart of Singapore. Supported by the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA), the refreshed playground blends terrain-inspired play, sensory engagement, social interaction and inclusive community spaces into a destination where recreation and placemaking come together.
We are honoured to have sponsored both the original 2015 installation and this latest 2026 makeover alongside Outerspace, Playworld, and Rosehill. The previous playground, which featured the Playform 7 equipment, served the Marina Bay community for over a decade before this latest transformation reimagined the space for a new generation of users. At CT-Art Creation, we believe in sponsoring public playgrounds because we want to bless the general public while contributing meaningfully to Singapore’s placemaking efforts. Public play spaces have the power to transform how communities experience the city around them, creating opportunities for movement, interaction and shared moments of joy within Singapore’s urbanised environment.

Marina Bay is one of Singapore’s most visited urban destinations, welcoming both locals and tourists daily. Designing a playground within such a prominent location required more than simply introducing new equipment, it demanded a thoughtful approach towards durability, safety and long-term performance.
With consistently high footfall expected throughout the year, every component within the playground needed to withstand intensive public use while continuing to provide a safe and engaging play experience. This is why, we place strong emphasis on supplying high-quality playground equipment designed for long-term durability and reliable performance.
In today’s market, there are many lower-cost alternative playground equipment available, and some suppliers even provide playground systems without proper safety certifications or testing standards. However, public spaces like Marina Bay require equipment that can endure Singapore’s climate, frequent usage and the expectations of a landmark destination. This is why we place strong emphasis on supplying certified, high-quality playground equipment that meets recognised safety and durability standards. For us, quality, compliance and safety remain at the core of every project we undertake because public playgrounds should be built to serve communities reliably for years, not just for the short term.
The result is a playground that feels contemporary yet welcoming, creating an urban playscape where children can explore freely while families and visitors enjoy the surrounding environment against the backdrop of Singapore’s city skyline.
At the centre of the playground is PlayHills, an innovative play landscape from Playworld that transforms the experience of climbing and exploration into something far more immersive and organic.
Inspired by the natural experience of playing across rolling hills, PlayHills combines steel and turf to create a sculptural play environment that encourages children to move intuitively through the space. Rather than following fixed routes or repetitive movements, children are invited to navigate the terrain in their own way, creating a more exploratory and imaginative play experience. Unlike traditional playground structures, PlayHills is designed with activities layered both on and beneath the elevated forms. This creates a multidimensional play environment where movement, sensory engagement and social interaction happen simultaneously.

Tempo Trail
One of the primary climbing routes within PlayHills is Tempo Trail, which focuses on climbing and sensory play. Along the route, children encounter footholds, sensory drums and an auditory sphere, encouraging interaction with texture, sound and movement as they ascend. These elements help support coordination, confidence and sensory development while maintaining a strong emphasis on fun and discovery.

Ridge Trail
The second route, Ridge Trail, introduces a more physically challenging ascent. Children can choose between gripping angular climbing holds or traversing colourful tri-mound stepping forms that help develop balance, coordination and lower body strength. The freedom to decide how they move through the structure reinforces independent thinking and encourages repeat play experiences.

Social Rest
Beneath the rolling terrain sits a circular hammock that creates a resting spot where children can pause, relax and socialise. This softer layer of the playground experience adds an important social dimension to the environment, reminding us that play is not solely about activity, but also about connection and shared experiences.

Extending from PlayHills is a sloped cargo net connection leading towards an adjacent play tower. Suspended midway along the net is another hammock feature that introduces an additional layer of movement and playfulness as children transition between structures.
The neighbouring play tower features a twisted climber whose curved layout increases the challenge of ascent and encourages strategic movement. The changing angles and climbing paths create a more dynamic experience compared to traditional straight climbing structures.
Its standout feature is undoubtedly the Mighty Descent slide: a dramatic slide over 2 metres tall with an extra-wide bedway designed to encourage group sliding experiences. Unlike conventional narrow slides, this slide allows children and families to slide together side-by-side, transforming a familiar activity into a shared moment of excitement and laughter. Positioned prominently within the playground, the slide quickly becomes a visual focal point and one of the most popular attractions within the space.

A successful playground is not only engaging but also thoughtfully designed to support safe and inclusive play for the wider community. To support safer play experiences, the playground is surfaced with Rosehill TPV rubber flooring, which provides excellent impact attenuation alongside a durable non-slip texture. Its resilience and weather resistance make it especially suitable for a high-traffic public destination such as Marina Bay, where consistent performance and durability are essential.
The installation also includes the FlexRider Hangout, designed to allow users of different ages and abilities to gather and swing together. By encouraging shared participation instead of isolated play, the feature reinforces the playground’s emphasis on inclusivity and social interaction.
Nearby, the Cone Spinner introduces another dimension of climbing play through a cone-shaped rope structure that encourages exploration, coordination and spatial movement. Rather than functioning as a rotating component, the structure focuses on rope play and climbing experiences that engagingly challenge balance and body awareness.

Complementing the playground equipment is a carefully curated selection of outdoor furniture supplied by Outerspace, helping transform the area into a complete recreational and community destination rather than simply a play zone.
The Korg Swing Sofa is suspended from two bars attached to a sturdy A-shaped steel frame. The swing sofa introduces a relaxed and social atmosphere into the space. The mesh material used throughout the Korg series is especially suitable for outdoor environments, allowing water to drain efficiently while remaining low-maintenance and quick-drying in Singapore’s tropical climate.
The playground also features several pieces from the Citydesign Zoid Collection, consisting of sleek, angular tables with integrated circular seating. Their contemporary design language complements the surrounding Marina Bay environment while creating practical gathering spaces where families, visitors and community members can comfortably rest and interact.
The official unveiling event held on 15 May 2026 brought together over 100 participants from across the industry and wider community, including developers, landscape architects, government agencies, members of the construction industry, and family and lifestyle content creators.
The evening featured a live DJ, VR experience, food trucks and a balloon sculptor, creating a lively and welcoming atmosphere that reflected the spirit of the playground itself. Guests were invited to explore the newly unveiled installation while learning about the history and significance of the project.
Throughout the event, adults spent time networking and discussing the evolving role of public play spaces within Singapore’s urban landscape, while children immediately immersed themselves in the playground. From climbing across PlayHills to racing towards Mighty Descent, the playground quickly came alive with movement, excitement and interaction. Watching families and children fully engage with the space reinforced exactly why projects like these continue to matter.

The Marina Bay Playground represents more than just a refreshed recreational space. It reflects how thoughtful playground design, quality equipment and strong community partnerships can contribute meaningfully to the city around us.
As a playground supplier committed to creating safe, durable and meaningful playscapes, we are proud to continue supporting projects that bring long-term value to Singapore’s public spaces. Through this collaboration with Outerspace, Playworld, Rosehill, and the support of URA, Marina Bay Playground has been transformed into a vibrant destination where play, fun and community connection come together against one of Singapore’s most iconic urban backdrops.
